Until the world no longer needs oil, there will always be oil rig employment. Billions of dollars have been spent on research, but there is still no replacement. With the International Energy Agency projecting that oil companies worldwide will spend $20 trillion in the next 25 years on oil exploration, and $400 billion being spent in 2009, there are plenty of oil rig jobs. Some oil companies may let go of their workers, but others will take their place. Remain persistent and you will have no trouble finding offshore oil rig jobs.

1. Get Training For Offshore Oil Rig Jobs

Nothing beats actual working experience, but proper training is the next best thing. Most of your competitors not only have zero experience, they are reluctant to spend money on their own self-development, education and training. This is one way to stand out from the crowd.

Although training can be expensive, when you remember that the oil industry pays double the average salary of nearly every other industry, it is clearly a good investment. But how do you get this training?

These days, community and vocational training colleges work with companies in the oil industry to provide relevant training. Some students may be eligible for government subsidies. In the USA, the Department of Labor has a program called JobCorps which helps disadvantaged youths. In the UK, there is a program for servicemen leaving active service.

2. Fill Up All Your Paperwork/Red Tape

People working in offshore oil rig jobs have to deal with a lot of red tape. There are many reasons - international treaties, federal government interference, state government legislation, unions, lawyers and lobbyists. Everyone wants a piece of the pie.

So what do you need? This depends on where you want to work, but use the following list as a starting point - first aid certification, firefighting certification, offshore survival certificate, helicopter underwater escape training certificate, passport, vaccinations, medical fitness certificate, union membership, trade certifications (e.g. welding certs for rig welding jobs).

3. Get Your Bills Automatically Deducted From Your Bank Account

If you can start work ASAP, this can give you an advantage. Get all your personal affairs settled ahead of time. All your bills - home mortgage, property taxes, utilities bills, phone bills, personal insurance, etc should be automatically deducted from your bank account.

Pack your bags ahead of time. Don't rush around at the last minute looking for missing stuff like a spare toothbrush or clean clother. If this will be your first offshore oil rig job, ask everyone you know or do some research about what you need to bring along.

Are you doing whatever it takes to get oil rig employment? Then remain persistent, keep up your spirits and you will get your job.
